RE-OWNED Colt Model 1861 Navy Richards-Mason Cartridge Conversion Caliber 38LC

This Colt's fully matching numbers across a rare full-sized 1861 Navy conversion make this a premium artifact of the early American West cartridge era.

The Colt Model 1861 Navy Richards-Mason Conversion Caliber 38LC with serial number #29730 was originally manufactured in 1866.

All four serial numbers match with the cylinder having Colts Patent No 157 and stamped beside this the last three digits of the serial.

The Cylinder also has the presence of a faintly visible cylinder scene depicting the Battle of Campeche.

This Colt with serial number #29730 was originally manufactured as a cap-and-ball percussion revolver during the American Civil War era (around 1866)

It was factory-converted in 1875 to fire metallic centerfire 38 long colt cartridges.

When Colt converted these former .36-caliber percussion revolvers to fire the .38LC cartridge, they frequently re-marked the old markings on the brass trigger guard.

Overstamping an original "36" stamp with an "8" to signify the new .38 caliber bore/chamber designation is a known factory practice during these refurbishments which this Colt shows clearly.

The frame variant on this Colt is an open top with solid round barrel (7.5 inches).

The left hand side of frame has been stamped PAT. JULY.2. 1871 & PAT. JULY.2. 1872

General Description:

This Colt is clearly in above average condition, retaining well over 70% of it's original bluing, all screws appear to have had little work.

The brass is well kept with only very small nicks and scratches and has retained its yellow colour.

The bore looks OK, or be it's dirty and the cylinder seems in great condition.

The Colt factory varnished grips do show signs of heavy dents/scratches on the left side, but the right hand side are in better condition.
